Snapshots & Quotations from Mural Painting Project 2008:

¢Ú He Chengguang Family - Tang Yi

click
He Chengguang: Your hands look beautiful and ours ugly. The feet could be taken photo of only after being washed.

click
Tang Yi: This mural painting will become a new road mark.
He Chengguang: You paint it out first; I will try my best to explain to them

click
The owner of the grocery: This is not a dragon whose mouth should be open! This is not enough, the mouth should be opened wider!!

click
He Chengguang¡¯s father: Stop painting; even if you finish the painting, we will erase it if we don¡¯t like it.

¡ï There is no use checking the sketch. Paint whatever you want except nudity.
¡ï Everyone has different comprehension. Paint it the way you consider good.
¡ï You paint it out first; I will try my best to explain to them.
- He Chengguang

¡ï I am not dead yet, I am still alive, I am the householder, and I must manage this home!
- He Chengguang¡¯s father

¡ï Your paintings are humiliating the common people.
- He Chengguang¡¯s sister-in-law

¡ï Let¡¯s try staying on talking.
¡ï It might be better to go consult with He Chengguang, and ask him to console people¡¯s discontentment.
- Li Lisha

¡ï If someone wants to criticize it, he could always find a way to do that, it has nothing to do with the content.
¡ï I think he may not cover it.
¡ï If everything must follow his idea, then the project is just too meaningless!
- Tang Yi

There will be some other things that take place alongside the mural painting.

¡ï Don¡¯t paint our house with dragon or snake
¡ï My former gang was called The Dragon
- He Simei¡¯s father

¡ï Don¡¯t paint my mother; they said that is improper
- He Simei

¡ï He Simei has really bad luck
¡ï Deeply darkened; obvious sun-burnt imprints of the glasses¡¯ legs emerged on the face
¡ï I finally gave her (He Simei) 50 RMB; I said if you don¡¯t like the painting, then buy some lime to cover it.
- Liu BB

¢Ý Mu Zhanyun family - Na Yingyu

click
Na Yingyu: Brother Mu, I¡¯d like to work with you to make a mural painting.

click
Mu Wenzhang: These villagers who go back and forth, do they like this mural painting or not?

Seven tangerines as a reward for painting a mural for Mu Zhanyun.

¡ï The whole picture will be under Mu Wenzhang¡¯s disposition.
¡ï Mu Wenzhang¡¯s control over the picture is too strong; the Manchurian princess must be painted by Hu Jiamin.
- Na Yingyu

¡ï I don¡¯t mind whatever Mu Wenzhang says; I just listen to Na. He simply told me to paint like this.
- Hu Jiamin

¡ï You should have confidence, I surely paint better than him!
- Mu Wenzhang

¡ï For fear that the family won¡¯t accept it, I did not dare to show them the sketch. It turned out quite unexpected that they didn¡¯t give any reaction upon seeing the sketch, and they nodded at once to be painted.
- Li Lisha

¡ï Add some Coca into the paints!
¡ï Our theme is too well hidden; I bet my life that they won¡¯t be able to make it out.
- L¨¹ Zhaohui

¡ï The overall consideration is not enough; there are unnecessary worries concerning the language and the method.
¡ï Too many taboos prevent us from doing it to our heart¡¯s content, which is really a pity; there lack some things for which the conditions are already ripe.
- Huang Xian

¡ï This foreigner wants to boil water with the snow mountain and barbecue the Clouds-Pointing Temple to eat?

Let it slide

¡ï It doesn¡¯t look nice. But I said that I would let you paint whatever you want!
- He Xuquan

¡ï This painting is not as awful as we imagined though.
- Li Lisha

¡ï It is quite amazing that so many people gave me a high score. Did I underrate the villagers¡¯ capability to appreciate art?
¡ï This could become a mural painting that is impossible to be accomplished and is forever unfinished. Whatever the villagers say, we will reply that it is not yet finished.
- Piet Trantel

¡ï We could put up a scaffold over the wall and cover it with cloth, like a building site. We won¡¯t let people see inside by telling them that we shall continue painting.
- Jay Brown

¡ï Master Liu painted so well. Many people have come over to my house to see it and I explained to them the idea of the painting. Upon my explanation, they all agreed by saying ¡°yes, yes, this is a good painting¡±. I even publicized for you. When I met others while driving, I always stopped to tell them how nice Master Liu¡¯s painting was and why it was so nice. They then came over to my house and saw by their own eyes. Now quite a few all want Master Liu to paint for them.
¡ï I will keep this painting as an heirloom. In the future I will make a stand and put this painting on it, and I will make a glass cover over it to well protect it. Therefore my children, my grand-children and my grand grand-children - all my descendants - will be able to see it.
- Mu Zhansong

¡ï Mu Zhansong¡¯s recognition towards the whole-family painting and the extent of his participation are really out of my expectation.
- Liu Chuanhong
