Jiang Hu Experimental Exhibition #5: Jiang Hu Journey
May 28, 2005 Lijiang, Yunnan, China

This is the fifth in a cycle of twelve experimental exhibitions organized by Lijiang Studio and ALAB on a monthly basis throughout 2005, featuring diverse and innovative curatorial strategies.

In Chinese, the enigmatic term jianghu, literally meaning ¡®rivers and lakes¡¯, can signify anything from 'a vast, unmappable place' to a certain type of kung-fu, to a social order or code that is more powerful than laws. The word encompasses meanings of anarchy and deep life experience, and of itinerant performers, charlatans, and hooligans. Using the various meanings of jianghu, these exhibitions are experimental, unpredictable activities outside of traditional structures.

The Scheme:
Jiang Hu Journey will be a small, one-day experimental traveling exhibition and participatory experience in the area of Lijiang, Yunnan, China. The exhibition will be an eclectic mix of local and far-flung work.

The exhibition will have four stages:
1. An early afternoon reception and preparation ceremony/exhibition at Lijiang Studio in Lijiang with art works displayed and small performances.
2. A voluntary blindfolded journey from old town Lijiang onto a
bus with prepared audio pieces and, hopefully, live music. The blindfolding will be the choice of each participant.
3. A hike up the mountain with artwork, performances, riddlers, and musicians along the way.
4. Arrival on top of mountain for the rest of the opening displaying art, work, performances, ceremony, fire and eating.

We are seeking submissions of art or other work dealing with any aspect of (the) (a) Journey (ies), literal or figurative. All mediums considered. We are looking for:
